Calling all thought provoking questions

For my blog activity this year (see previous blog about I am wanting to gather as many thought provoking questions as I can for my weekly questions. I teach 5th grade so am needing maybe 4-6 grade level questions. Please comment below with any awesome blog questions you can think of! Nothing too subject focused... more critical thinking opinion and judging type questions. The following below will hopefully give you an idea of the types of questions I am trying to collect.

What I have so far:
1. What will you need to change or continue doing in order to succeed this year?
2. Is it ever okay to lie?
3. Do you think boys or girls have an easier life?
4. What would you do if your best friend was of a different race and your parents no longer wanted you to hang out with him or her?
5. If you could ask anyone one question and they could not lie to you: who would it be and what would you ask?

Questions I'm looking for will be stop-and-think type questions. Ones that are hard to answer yes or no and makes them challenge their thinking and make choices and valuable opinions.

Thank you so much for helping to collaborate an amazing list of questions that will help our students grow!

  1. After reading about immigration, I asked students what they would bring with them if they were moving to a new country and could only bring one suitcase with them. Interesting answers - lots of electronics.

  2. A friend of yours is getting bullied and that person is much bigger than you. What would you do and why?

The teacher left the room and the answer key to the test is on her desk. You see your best friend copy down answers onto a paper. Your friend then passes out the answers to you. What do you do?

You are outside playing with friends during recess, and the new student asks to be part of the game you are playing. Your friends laugh at him/her. What do you do?

If you were stranded on an island what three items would you want to have with you? Why?

You are asked to be President for one day. What changes would you make to how our country is operated?

You have won the best birthday party ever! You can go anywhere, and invite anyone. What would your day look like?

  3. Do you think celebrities have a responsibility to be role models for kids? Why or why not?

If you could meet 1 famous person, living or dead, who would you choose to meet and why?
